Sines & Solitudes

Tom Ashbrook’s debut release Sines was based on the classical elements; water, earth, fire, air and æther (or void, that which contains the others) which are represented as a set of original, totemic artefacts, combining to form the EP artwork. Echoing the simple elegance of solo piano, typical colour coding was avoided. The designs are made with layered tracing paper and then animated, light and texture suggesting form and depth.

Solitudes expands Ashbrook’s composition style as he illustrates his experiences of 2020’s unusual forms of isolation and connection. An original rune lies calmly in the centre, representing the opposing forces at play during periods of extended solitude. Accompanied by subtle oil painted canvases, the artwork is completed as a special die-cut vinyl.
